onsemi announced that select Xiaomi YU7 electric SUV models feature an advanced 800V drive platform powered by onsemi’s EliteSiC M3e technology. The EliteSiC M3e platform features superior performance and efficiency enabling automakers to design smaller, lighter, and more robust traction systems for electric vehicles (EV).

By integrating onsemi’s EliteSiC M3e technology into the traction inverter, the platform is able to achieve better performance and power density while reducing overall system cost and unlocking longer range for drivers.

With the lowest on-resistance in the industry, onsemi’s EliteSiC technology also raises the bar for peak power delivery within a smaller footprint to enable faster acceleration for vehicles without any sacrifice in efficiency and range.

“onsemi’s EliteSiC technology delivers industry-leading efficiency, power density, and thermal performance, enabling the development of electric vehicles with longer range, faster acceleration, and greater reliability,” said Simon Keeton, group president, Power Solutions Group, onsemi. “Our industry-leading silicon carbide technology is redefining what’s possible in next-generation electric mobility.”

As the global shift toward electrification accelerates, onsemi’s EliteSiC solutions continue to power next-generation EVs by enabling higher power density, improved thermal performance, and superior energy efficiency – making longer ranges and higher performance the new standard.

Navitas Semiconductor announced that Xiaomi’s next-generation 90W GaN charger will be powered by Navitas’ GaNSense Control ICs.

As the world’s smallest 90 W charger, this ultra-compact, high-power-density form-factor measures just 34 × 45 × 34 mm and weighs only 65 grams—approximately half the size and a third the weight of typical GaN chargers.

The charger integrates Navitas’ NV9580 GaNSense Control power IC on the primary side and the NV9701 synchronous rectification controller IC on the secondary side. The GaNSense Control family combines 4th generation GaN power with high-frequency control functionality. It provides all the benefits of a monolithically integrated GaN power FET and GaN drive, plus a controller and protection features in a single surface-mount package for high-density, high-efficiency chargers, adapters, and auxiliary power designs.

GaNSense Control ICs deliver the highest-frequency operation to minimize system size and weight. Integrated features such as lossless current sensing, high-voltage start-up, and elimination of VDD inductor reduce component count and increase system efficiency. With transient voltage breakdown up to 800 V and no PCB hotspots, Navitas’ GaNSense Control ICs deliver best-in-class efficiency in the smallest form factor.

“The launch of Xiaomi’s 90W GaN charger marks a new milestone in our long-standing collaboration with Xiaomi,” said Charles Zha, SVP and APAC GM of Navitas. “Combining the innovation of GaNSense Control ICs and Xiaomi’s leading system expertise, we have delivered a new benchmark for ultra-portable fast-chargers. Navitas will continue our partnership with Xiaomi to continue future innovations with our GaN technology.”

Infineon Technologies AG will provide silicon carbide (SiC) power modules HybridPACK™ Drive G2 CoolSiC™ and bare die products to Xiaomi EV for its recently announced SU7 until 2027. Infineon’s CoolSiC-based power modules allow for higher operating temperatures, resulting in best-in-class performance, driving dynamics and lifetime.

Traction inverters based on the technology can, for example, further increase electric vehicle range. The HybridPACK Drive is Infineon’s market-leading power module family for electric vehicles, with almost 8.5 million units sold since 2017.

Infineon provides two HybridPACK Drive G2 CoolSiC 1200 V modules for the Xiaomi SU7 Max. In addition, Infineon supplies Xiaomi EV with a broad range of products per car, including, for example, EiceDRIVER TM gate drivers and more than ten microcontrollers in various applications. The two companies also agreed to further cooperate on SiC automotive applications to fully utilize the benefits of Infineon’s SiC portfolio.

Zhenyu Huang, Vice President of Xiaomi EV and General Manager of the Supply Chain Department, said: “Infineon is an important partner with leading technologies and resilient manufacturing capabilities in power semiconductors as well as a highly scalable microcontroller product portfolio. The cooperation between the two companies will not only help stabilize the supply of silicon carbide for Xiaomi EV, but also help us build a high-performance, safe and reliable luxury car with leading-edge features for our customers.”

Peter Schiefer, President of Infineon’s Automotive division, said: “We are very pleased to work with dynamic players such as Xiaomi EV and provide them with silicon carbide products designed to enhance the performance of electric cars even further. As the leading partner to the automotive industry, we are well positioned with our broad product portfolio, system understanding and multi-site manufacturing base to shape the mobility of the future.”

This collaboration contributes to Infineon’s position as the number one partner of the global automotive industry. According to the latest data from TechInsights, Infineon is the largest semiconductor supplier to the automotive industry. In addition to its number one position in automotive power semiconductors, Infineon also took the lead in the field of automotive microcontrollers last year.
