Infineon Technologies AG has completed the sale of its backend manufacturing site in Bangkok/Nonthaburi, Thailand, to Malaysian Pacific Industries Berhad (MPI), a long-standing and trusted supplier. As part of the transaction, Infineon has entered into a long-term supply agreement with MPI.

MPI, headquartered in Malaysia, provides outsourced semiconductor assembly, packaging and testing services through its Carsem subsidiaries and has served global customers for more than 50 years. MPI will assume operations along with all production-related employees, offering an excellent long-term outlook for the workforce.

Infineon reiterated its commitment to Thailand’s vibrant semiconductor ecosystem and partner network. In January 2025, the company launched construction of a new backend fab in Samut Prakan, south of Bangkok. Together, the divestiture and the new investment optimize Infineon’s manufacturing footprint, aligning with its strategy to combine in-house production with reliable OSAT partnerships for greater efficiency and flexibility.

Infineon Technologies AG has entered into a definitive agreement to transfer its backend manufacturing site in Bangkok/Nonthaburi Thailand, to Malaysian Pacific Industries Berhad (MPI), a trusted supplier of Infineon. Along with the transition, Infineon secures a long-term supply agreement with MPI. Additionally, both companies agreed to strengthen their partnership and to collaborate on the joint development of innovative package solutions.

This strategic step further enriches the local semiconductor ecosystem by bringing a new semiconductor company into the country. MPI is an investment holding company headquartered in Malaysia. Under the name Carsem, MPI’s subsidiaries are providing outsourced semiconductor assembly, packaging and testing services (OSAT) for its customers across the globe for already more than 50 years.

“Our employees have set high standards in terms of product quality and will continue their work under the new ownership”, says George Lee, EVP and Head of Backend Operations at Infineon. “MPI’s business model will allow for a more diverse utilization of the site by serving a broad customer base. I am confident that this step provides the employees in Bangkok with an excellent long-term perspective as part of MPI, who will assume operations with all production related employees. We will continue with our close collaboration, offering customers established products as well as cutting-edge solutions.”
“We are excited to announce this acquisition, which represents a key step forward in our strategic growth plans.” said Mr. Manuel Zarauza Brandulas, Group Managing Director of MPI. “This acquisition underscores MPI’s firm commitment to strengthening its long-term partnership with Infineon. We will continue working closely to identify synergies, develop solutions, and explore future win-win opportunities. The move is expected to deliver long-term value for MPI, Infineon, and all stakeholders involved. This is another milestone in our partnership with Infineon, and long may it continue.”
Infineon is fully committed to its presence in Thailand, a country with a flourishing semiconductor ecosystem and reliable supplier and partner network. In addition to the partnership with MPI, Infineon launched the construction of a new state-of-the-art backend fab in Samut Prakan, south of Bangkok, in January 2025. Both decisions complement each other and will optimize Infineon’s overall manufacturing footprint according to the company strategy of combining inhouse manufacturing and reliable OSAT partnerships in terms of efficiency and flexibility.

While MPI continues developing the established high performing site, that is currently offering a broad portfolio of standard packages for automotive, connectivity and IoT solutions, the new site in Samut Prakan will focus on Framed Power Modules and Wafer Test. The first building of the new backend facility is planned to be ready for production in the course of 2026. Further ramp-up will be managed flexibly in line with market demand.

Closing of the transaction is expected towards beginning of 2026, when all pending closing conditions will have been fulfilled.
